Sprinter has successfully penetrated the U.S. van market since
its introduction in the year 2001. It was first launched in Europe
in 1995 to replace the Mercedes-Benz T1 van. It made its entry into
the U.S market in the year 2001 under the Freightliner brand.
One of the main reasons for its success is that where other competitors
are available only for commercial use, Sprinter is also available
in passenger versions. Sprinter has been sold under the brands Mercedes-Benz,
Dodge, and Freightliner. In all brand instances, Sprinter was and
is manufactured by DaimlerChrysler. It is available in three variations-
tall delivery van, pickup truck, and minibus. Although not very popular
due to its somewhat boxy shape; its job versatility, ample space,
modern features and large cargo capacity practically overshadow any
lack of style.
In 2004, DaimlerChrysler introduced its Dodge-branded version of
the Sprinter in North America to replace the Dodge Ram Van which coexisted
with the Freightliner brand. While the Sprinter is offered to individuals,
it is primarily used for business, transportation and cargo purposes.
Depending on the gross weight rating, model designations for the first
generation Dodge Sprinters are W901, W902, W903, W904 and W905. Second
generation Dodge Sprinters were introduced in the year 2006.
The all new and improved Dodge Sprinter launched in the year 2007
is available in three heights (65, 76, and 84 inches), three lengths
(233, 273, and 289 inches), and two wheel bases (144 and 170). If
you go for the tallest and longest version, you can fit up to 600
cubic feet of cargo inside. The new Dodge Sprinter makes your driving
